Roulette wheel

If you don’t know about these while playing live, you can slow the game down because many of your bets should be made while the wheel is spinning. Fortunately, this post will guide and help you develop the understanding a beginner needs before they can hit the roulette table and start playing. Even if you are playing roulette online, knowing the different types of bets can help you make more informed decisions and increase your chances of winning.

There are several types of roulette bets that you can make. This guide will list down the  inside bets, outside bets, and more to help you understand the easiest typesfirst and then work yourway towards more challenging and expensive bets.

Types Of Outside Bets

Outside bets are made on groups of numbers or colors, instead of specific numbers.

Red/Black Bet

The Red/Black is a simple bet because you’re betting on an almost 50/50 chance that the ball will fall on either a red or black color. The reason why this bet has a lower than 50% chance for a win is because of the 0 or 00 on the wheel because those are neither black nor red.

Odd/Even Bet

An Odd/Even bet is when you bet on whether the ball lands on an even or odd number. This is also an even money bet but the chances of landing on 0 or 00 mean your odds are lower than 50.50.

High/Low Bet

You can bet on the ball landing within numbers 1-18 for a low bet or 19-36 for a high bet. Both are even money bets.

Column Bets

This bet is on the ball landing on a number within one of the three columns of 12numbers on the longest side of the table. Each column pays 2:1, meaning that it doubles your bet if you win.

Dozens Bets

Like the column bet, this onealso covers 12 numbers. However, the bet covers 1-12 (first 12), 13-24 (second 12), or 25-36 (third 12). Each dozen bet pays double your bet.

Types Of Inside Bets

Inside bets cover the picks from within the box containing the numbers on the table.

Straight Up Bet

This inside bet is on any number within the rectangle where all the numbers are. If the ball lands on the number you pick, you win, and if it doesn’t, you lose. The straight bet pays 35:1.

Split Bet

The split bet is when you bet on the line that separates two numbers. If any of the two come up, you win. Provided that the two numbers you are considering betting on are adjacent to each other, you can place a split bet between them. Split bets pay 17:1.

Street Bet

This is a bet on any number within a row of three numbers in a sequence, like 1, 2, and 3. The bet pays 11:1, and you win if you land on any of the three numbers within the sequence you chose.

Corner Bet

This bet is much like the split bet but you bet it on four numbers instead of two, and it pays 8:1..

Line Bet

Line bets are similar to street betsbut they cover two rows of three numbers, instead of one. The numbers need to be on two consecutive rows for you to make the bet and it has a 5:1 payoff.

Five-Number Bet

This is a bet on the ball landing on the numbers 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. With only a 13.16% chance of winning, this is one of the worst roulette bets you can make, and it has a 6:1 payoff.

Basket

The bet covers 0, 1, 2, 3 and has a 6:1 payoff.

Snake Bet

This bet gets its name from the snake-like pattern you get from the numbers 1, 5, 9, 12, 14, 16, 19, 23, 27, 30, 32, and 34, and it comes with a 2:1 payoff.

Call Bets

If you are playing roulette online, you can find the European and French variations of the game. These tables let you make a few more bets. Call bets are when you call out the bets instead of placing money on the table.

Neighbors Of Zero Bet

Called Voisins du Zero, this bet covers the numbers closest to the 0 on the roulette wheel, i.e., the numbers between and including 22 and 25. The bet requires at least nine chips. Two of them are placed on 0, 2, 3, one of them is on the 4/7 split, another on the 12/15 split, one on 18/21, one on 19/22, two on 25/26/28/29, and one on 32/35.

Zero Game Bet

This bet covers the numbers closest to 0, including 12, 35, 3, 26, 0, 32, and 15. You use four chips to make a bet. Place one chip on the 0/3 split, another on the 12/15 split, a third on the 32/35 split, and one is a straight-up bet on 26.

There are also several other call bets that you can make on a European or French roulette variation of the game, and they become increasingly complex (and expensive).
