Do you enjoy playing online Roulette? One of the most loved casino games, winning at online Roulette can be a challenge for new and experienced players alike. More often than not, it is the type of bets you place that can have a lasting outcome in Roulette. That’s why Roulette strategies focus on developing betting systems that can help you make smart bets to control your losses and increase your profits. One of these is the Labouchere Roulette Strategy. This particular betting strategy is a little more complex compared to the Martingale Strategy, the Fibonacci Betting Strategy, the James Bond Betting Strategy, and others.
Read on as we discuss how the Labouchere works and whether you should use it or not.
What Is the Labouchere Betting Strategy?
The Labouchere Strategy is designed for even money outside bets, and you can use it to bet on red or black, even or odd, and 1 to 18 or 19 to 36 numbers. If you want to use this betting system, the first thing you need to do is establish a profit goal. How much money do you want to win? Once you have this amount in mind, you can distribute it into a series of smaller numbers such that when you add them, you get your goal amount.
So, for instance, suppose that you want to win $20 in total. In this case, the amount could be split as follows:
4 – 1 – 2 – 4 – 4 – 5
You can also use other numbers to make up the sequence. If we apply the Labouchere Roulette strategy to this sequence, the first thing you need to do is add the two numbers at the far left and far right. In this case, you can add 4 and 5 to get a sum of 9. This is how much you can bet in the first round. If you are able to win, you can remove 4 and 5 from the above sequence and get a new sequence. This would be:
1 – 2 – 4 – 4
Once again, you can add the numbers at the opposite ends of the sequence. This would be 4 and 1, giving you a sum of 5. Thus, you can bet $5 in your next round. Assuming you win this bet, too, you can remove 4 and 1 from the sequence. Now, you will be left with 2 and 4. If you add these, you get a sum of 6. This would be the stake for your new bet. If you win this bet too, then the Labouchere Roulette Strategy would have given you the following results:
Bet Amount | Outcome |
$9 | Win |
$5 | Win |
$6 | Win |
Remember, you are placing even money outside bets. These bets have a payout of 1:1. If you add the total amount you won, you will get $20. This was your original profit goal.
Dealing with Losses in the Labouchere Betting Strategy
So far, we have discussed how the Labouchere Betting Strategy would work if you win each bet. However, things move a little differently if you lose. Let’s take a look at what would happen here.
Suppose that you have a goal of earning $20 again. Once again, you can divide this into smaller numbers as follows:
4 – 1 – 2 – 4 – 4 – 5
As per the rules of the Labouchere, the first bet you place here would be $9. If you lose this bet, you would have to add this amount to the sequence. It would look as follows:
1 – 2 – 4 – 4 – 9
Now, the next bet you place will be equivalent to $10 (9 + 1). Suppose you win this new bet. The sequence will be modified to look like this:
2 – 4 – 4
Your next bet will be $6. However, if you lose it. This will require you to change the sequence in the following way:
4 – 6
This means that your new bet will be $10. If you win this bet, you will have gotten the following results:
Bet Amount | Outcome |
$9 | Loss |
$10 | Win |
$6 | Loss |
$10 | Win |
As per this table, you have lost $15 in losses but won $20, which was your profit goal.
Should You Consider Using the Labouchere Roulette System?
The Labouchere Roulette System can be tricky for gamblers, especially if you forget the sequence you were playing with. However, it offers a neat and organized way to achieve your profit goal. The system requires you to increase your stake every time you lose. This is similar to the Martingale and the Fibonacci. However, the progression moves more slowly. Even if you lose, you don’t have to double your stake. Instead, you can simply follow the sequence you created and control your losses. This offers a great deal of flexibility. For instance, a profit goal of $20 could also be distributed as follows:
2 – 1 – 1 – 1- 2 – 1 – 1 – 1 – 2 – 1 – 1 – 1 – 2 – 1 – 1 – 1
If you follow this sequence, your stake would be much lower for each bet. Even if you lose, you would only need to add $2 or $3 to the new bet. However, unless you are playing online Roulette, such long sequences can be hard to remember.
Moreover, if you find yourself on a losing streak, then you will have to keep extending the sequence. This can eventually get complicated, and you can lose money. You may also forget the sequence that you were using.
Besides this, the Labouchere Betting Strategy doesn’t help you minimize the house edge to improve your odds.
Wrapping It Up
The Labouchere is great for breaking your profit goal into a series of smaller bets to lower your risk and make your bankroll last longer. However, if you keep losing, then the sequence can get long and complicated, and you may find it hard to keep up. We suggest using it for smaller profit goals that are easier to keep track of.
