If you like to play roulette online, then you are sure to be on the lookout for new strategies that can help you win. The Oscar’s Grind strategy is one such betting system that is enjoyed by roulette players around the world. This strategy is inspired by the Paroli system that forms the basis of the Martingale betting strategy for roulette. However, it is also considered a lot safer than the Martingale strategy.

Read on as we discuss what the Oscar’s Grind strategy is all about and whether you should consider using it when you play online roulette.

What is the Oscar’s Grind Strategy for Roulette?

Oscar’s Grind is basically a roulette betting system that was presented by an author, Allan Wilson, during the 1960s. You can find it in his book, the Casino Gambler’s Guide, which discusses rare situations where it is possible to gamble in a profitable manner.

As per Allan, the Oscar’s Grind system was invented by a gambler referred to as Oscar. Allan saw him use the system and talked about it later in his book. The use of the word “grind” indicates that you need to put in some work if you want to benefit from this system. It won’t offer a lot of money from the get-go. However, if you keep using it, it can help you earn some amount of money in profits.

Now that we have a brief understanding of the history of the strategy let’s take a look at how this betting system works.

How Does It Work?

The Oscar’s Grind strategy focuses on outside bets that offer a payout of 1:1 and include odd/even, red/black, and 1-18/19-36 numbers. Like other strategies for roulette, it utilizes a progressive betting system. You can choose a betting unit and use it to place an even-money bet. If you lose this bet, then you can bet the same amount again. If you end up losing this bet, too, you can stick to the same bet. You can keep doing this until you win. When you do, you can increase your bet by one unit.

You can bet this new amount again and again until you finally earn a profit. When this happens, you can return to your original stake.

In this system, you can increase your stake by one unit every time you win. However, if you have a win after a series of losses, you can increase your stake by three times. This is applicable if your profit remains in the negative even after one win. The 3-unit increase is meant to help you recover your losses more quickly.

Let’s consider an example of the Oscar’s Grind strategy to see how it works when you play roulette online. In this case, we can assume the betting unit to be $1.

Spin No.Bet AmountOutcomeProfitTotal
1$1Lose$1$1
2$1Lose$1$2
3$1Lose$1$3
4$1Lose$1$4
5$1Lose$1$3
6$2Win$2$5
7$2Lose$2$7
8$2Lose$2$9
9$2Win$2$7
10$3Win$3$4
11$4Win$4$0
12$1Win$1$1

As you can see in this example, you have increased your stake to $2 after losing four bets in a row. You also keep increasing your bet amount by $1 in Spin 10, 11, and 12. This allows you to recover your losses and make a small profit of $1.

Should You Use the Oscar’s Grind Strategy?

The Oscar’s Grind strategy offers several benefits. These include:

Small Wagers Help You Limit Your Losses

Unlike most other strategies for roulette, the Oscar’s Grind strategy focuses on placing small wagers that allow you to recover your losses. Even if you lose, you can keep your losses to a minimum. This can help you protect your bankroll.

No Exponential Increase in Wagers

Unlike the Martingale betting system that requires you to increase your wagers in an exponential manner, the Oscar’s Grind system exposes you to minimum risk. Even if you lose, your stake remains the same. This can help you play a safer game and enjoy yourself.

That said, the betting system has its disadvantages too. These include:

Your Profits Remain Small

The Oscar’s Grind strategy is great at keeping your losses to a manageable level. However, this applies to your profits too. If you are a professional roulette player, then you might not enjoy using this system because the scope for winning a lot of money is rather limited. Of course, you can always increase the size of your betting unit, but this would expose you to more losses. Moreover, once you have won a few times in a row, you will have to reset your bet and start all over again.

The House Edge

As is the case with other strategies for roulette, the house edge remains untouched in the Oscar’s Grind betting system. You can try and reduce it by playing European or French Roulette as opposed to American roulette. However, on the whole, it will still work against you.

The Oscar’s Grind system can help you make small wagers and is particularly helpful for new players who want to play roulette online for fun. It helps you minimize your losses, and you won’t have to worry about your bankroll so much. Conversely, you will also enjoy small profits through this system. Moreover, once you have managed to earn a profit, you have to reset your stake. Players that use this system must be prepared to “grind” their way to playing a winning game. It requires a lot of patience, and if you are interested in winning the big bucks, then this betting system may not be for you.
